When on display what is best to use under a 1000 pound pumpkin so that it does not rot. I used beach sand when it was growing but I don't want to put all that sand on my lawn and I don't know what to use to prevent it from rotting too quick. Any help would be great, Thanks

I always just leave it on a pallet. I've never had a problem with the bottom rotting. Make sure you cover it with a blanket if the temp are going to dip below freezing.

I had my on straw bales and my display lasted till December. A pallet on straw bales would probably be more ideal, plus it makes it look that much bigger being propped up.

I like the straw+pallet Idea, I seen that most keep them on pallets but 2 reasons I didn't like that one was that just a pallet doesn't look the greatest and second was that I was worried about the edges of the boards digging into the pumpkin (but I'm a first year grower and have allot to learn)

Thanks for the suggestions

Something that breathes and does not act like a sponge. A pallet with an outdoor rug, has always worked for me.

Use a pallet the boards wont hurt a thing, then spread straw around the base to hide the pallet.
