Is it genetics? Is it environmental factors? I want to grow a round huge orange pumpkin. Any tips to "help" it grow round.

Start with good proven genetics, seeds that have consistently grown round orange pumpkins. Next would be selecting a pumpkin on the vine with a round high shape rather than an oblong egg.

Gravity causes the big pumpkins to spread.

Probably not what you are looking for but....

My first year pumpkin had shoulders, a nose and all. Real ugly and I still have a hunch that the loss of symmetry in my case was due to a stem split and then some tinkering from me to prevent it from travelling further.

This one shows the split

That's funny, could you imagine having one of these giants in the pumpkin hammock!

I can picture it now!

New castle, to answer your question round and orange are definitely genetically driven. The hugeness is up to you. Check out the 1059 Vincent, 777 young, 1048 engel, 811 gerhardt.

Thanks for the replies, I have 1048 Engle, 566 J Werner (1059 Vincent X self) in the dirt. I am also hoping that Chris's 795 Dunn will be be big round and orange. Just because you mentioned it yardman I am going to find an old water bed. Hope I can find one rated for 500+ lbs. I will also try to find a hammock for the morbidly obese.
