Hello, I am very new to this and I am looking for some tips. I attempted to grow a giant pumpkin this year. The + is that I grew a pumpkin, the - is that 56lb is not a giant. Can someone give me some tips on what I should be doing now to prepare my soil for next year? Thanks

A soil test, post the test results here, experienced growers will chime in and help read it, suggest what amendments to add. Hollandsgiants.com and extremepumpkins.com sell amendments, they also have a fertilizer program you can follow. Make sure you get the seeds from here, they have the genetics to grow giant size.

also, your region has a excellent spring seminar(ovgpg).I believe they even have a newbie seminar. As suggested- a soil test is your best start.

OVGPG seminar may be a 3-4 hour drive, but it's well worth the trip. This club has members growing less than five years putting monsters on the scale. They know what's up!
