Hey guys, I've got myself a hydroponic pumpkin going. It was about 20 days after polination it made it to 131lbs, and then pretty much stopped growing and started weeping from all over the place. not sure how to post pictures in here, but this is a picture of it that uploaded to photobucket. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y290/Rollux/IMAG2166_zps0bbc03af.jpg
This has been going on for over a week now and it looks like the earlier spots where it was weeping has actually started healing up and scaring. So thats a good sign, I was worried it was breaking down and about to rot. I've been putting sulfur powder on the weeping spots. Do you guys know why it started weeping from random clear spots? I've been reading about weeping and cracks on here for a while now but that mostly seemed to be at the blossom and stalk end. So I'm not sure why it stopped growing and started weeping .
thanks David

I don't know what it is, but it isn't good. Since is it only 20 days old, it could have just aborted, or it could be a disease. Any other signs of disease in the plant/roots? I'd say it is probably getting soft somewhere by now.

No signs of disease from what I can see, just the usual powdery mildew, but I've kept that under control. Lots of the spots where it has been weeping has healed up and started scarring. I can't find any soft spots, I guess there could be underneath but it doesn't seem like it.

I feel like its a good sign if they are healing and scarring up. At first I thought it was just going to start going soft, but it has been 10 days since the weeping started and it seems very firm. Its going to be 102.2 F today, so I guess thats going to speed up any breaking down.

My shenoha did this to me every single kin. It would actually drip this yellowish/clear fluid. Someone suggested letting the sun get to the kin- it helped IMMENSELY. I also 'painted' the kin in captan solution. It continued to weep a bit, but kept right on healing it's self as it did, so don't lose hope. I wound up getting an almost 400 pounder on 4th stage growth side vine AND it was a late set that only grew for 40 or so days.

if its healing that's a good sign. We always get little beads of sap that rarely get bigger than a bb and turn amber as the dry and get hard. never seen one with sap running out of it. Is it growing at all?

Thats good to hear! thanks guys. I did get some of that beading around the stem and blossom end and through some of the ridges near the stem. This weeping was something else for sure. As of tonight I can't see any weeping, its all beaded up and gone hard or scarred up. So long as the weather doesn't get too hot I might try getting some sun on it.
No I think this pumpkin is done growing, I've been placing things next to it to see if it closes the gap and it hasn't for a few days now. It did still keep growing slightly for a while while it was weeping but I'm not seeing any movement now.
Now that it has stopped I'm starting to see fresh secondary vines popping out near the end of the main vine, with female flowers on them. I might give those a shot and see what I get.

I have noticed in the past that that is a good indicator that something has gone wrong with the growing kin....if it's making new girls all of a sudden I start checking the 'baby'. For me, it has always turned out that the plant knew more than I did and the kin that was normal looking had quit without me noticing anything yet. I saw it on my older kins too at the end of the season, when they had slowed down considerably all of a sudden here was some fresh girls at the end of the main. Kinda neat in my book.

Hi David, not sure what seed you are growing but in general if the pumpkin stops growing it will not start again. If that is the case cut it off and select the next good one.

It was a fairly generic seed from Atlanticseeds.com.au The write up says it can produce pumpkins over 400kg.
Since I'm still a newbie I was worried about investing $20 per seed for the ones imported from the USA.
I dont want to cut the pumpkin off yet, because although I know its not going to get any bigger I want it to be mature enough to get some seeds out of it. Its the only pumpkin I've got and even though its only about 65kg its still a personal record. With the new growth coming out, I'm hoping I'll be able to get a new pumpkin and still keep my original one.
