We have been experiencing some really hot dry weather up here in Nor Cal, 100 degree days. I am providing shade to last few feet of primary, but I am noticing secondary ends showing flagging too. My entire garden measures 32'x64'. Thinking about putting up a giant shade cloth over the whole darn thing, rather than fighting all these wilting tips. Is this a good idea, and if so, what percent shade cloth should I put up? I was thinking 25%. I don't want to cut out too much sunlight. Thank you!

twenty-five to thirty percent shade would help your wilting problems for sure. periodic misting of the plant, is a big help as well. pap

30% has helped me with your problem. My patch is 100' X 50'. I have (2) 26' X 65' 30% over my patch and each will run you about $285 at Greenhouse Megastore. Look at my Diary. One is 3years old and it has stretched to 30' or more...lighter and tougher than I ever thought.8 year uv and then you need the shark bites and rope for the edges. It also shades YOU while you work, protects from hail, cuts a lot off the gusty winds, and your soil retains moisture and won't dry out.

Thanks pap and HankH! I'm going to go with the 30%. It looks like it's going to be an unseasonably hot Summer up here.
