Had a nice looking 200+ pound display kin off a lateral. Kept it growing just in case the main vine kin bit the dust. Anyway the 200 lber developed rot on the vine- the vine now completely rotted off the kin- the stem looks awfully mushy. I want to display the kin- its still under a sheet for cover. Whats the best way to keep this guy from rotting till October. Also it has no orange pigment yet. Should i take the shade sheet off? I imagine i should coat the stem with Daconil and maybe bleach? I'm so worried this sucker is going to implode on itself. :( Any advice ??

You present a dire situation! I just had to cut up a beautiful kin I had hopes of it making it to the front yard for a few weeks of display! If you can't easily put your finger through where the stem was, and there are no soft spots anywhere, even underneath, then yes, do the rubbing alcohol, dry, put straight daconil, keep in a dry place, with mild air circulation.

Its been growing since pretty early in season- essentially no growth past month. I imagine i should still keep it under the sheet- just make sure adequate ventilation. Im hoping since it hasn't turned orange that thats still in my favor. Will do the alcohol and daconil now!! Thanks!!
