Hi if I want to grow orange do I have to grow the kin on the plant known to produce orange or can I use its flower to pollinate another plant (which the kin it's from wasn't orange) and get orange from that one? I think I know the answer but just wanted to make sure.

Orange flesh is genetic so grow a seed that's known to produce orange. The pollen wont affect the pumpkins traits just the genetics in the seeds.

you can tell the really orange ones when they are small as they are a really bright yellow. The "uglies" are normally a lighter shade or almost white.

The pollen will only affect next years pumpkin. You need to plant an orange pumpkin seed in order to get an orange one this season.
