Not sure why part of its skin looks to have dimples now. Sunburn or is it dying maybe? Wrong fabric covering it? Has been really wet in ohio and have used many different types of shirts to cover it with. Is there fabrics that shouldn't be used or something?Doesn't feel soft anywhere. Has been covered with a shirt most of the time but not always when sunny.

Here it is on July 3rd.

Maybe 10 days old at that point? That's just a guess though. If it was 10 days old at this point that would make it about 23 days old. Was growing real fast but has either slowed or stopped in last week. It doesnt feel soft anywhere but neither does a different pumpkin I culled ago. I guess it does have some give if I push pretty hard on it but I'm afraid to go much harder and break it. Was open pollination also if that makes a difference. Main vine had recent injury and was terminated also.

Agreed it's aborting, I would look to get another one going if possible. Too bad it looked like it was going to be a nice one.

Thanks for the replies. I think you guys are right that it is aborting. I have been thinking all day about what could have caused it. On July 7 I was pretty excited about its growth and since I had terminated the main because of injury recently the main isn't very long so in order to still set one on the main vine I cut the one of the well established secondary next to it. I also cut a couple leaves off and I forgot to slowly cull the other pumpkin that was growing close to it. I also put it on a piece of insulation and repositioned the pumpkin. I forgot to make drain holes in the insulation so I poked holes in the insulation with the pumpkin on it and was vibrating the pumpkin and I had a feeling that was probably a bad idea. Also, the day before we had a storm with high winds that broke a few leaves on the plant and flipped many of them over. I looked up the rain from July 8(the day I was culling, cutting, and moving) and July 13th it looks like I got 3 inches of rain. I was reading on: https://agdev.anr.udel.edu/weeklycropupdate/?p=1583
and saw an interesting part:
"Flooded soils or soils that stay saturated for long periods will cause pumpkin roots to shut down and can lead to temporary wilting that will also cause some flower or fruit abortion."
I think the fruit may have aborted because of too much of my shadow coupled with too much water, the wind, and injuries. From all that stress, the plant probably thought it was being tortured. I pollinated another flower today so maybe I'll get to get a couple hundred pounds and some seeds from this plant.

It felt a little softer yesterday so I cut it off. The wall of the pumpkin looks a little discolored where the skin was like an orange.

I have noticed that the day I decide which pumpkin is going to be a keeper and I start pruning vines and making adjustments for it's future growth. For some reason this can trigger it to abort. (it happened this year) AG's are hard to grow, no doubt.
