So I've got a couple of sets around 8" and I noticed today that all the tiny females are turning brown. These are a few days from flower opening so it's not lack of pollination. Could it be the plant can only support so many gourds and then drops fruit? Everything else is healthy and male flowers keep churning.

Heat, or nutrient deficiency?

Mine did the same thing last year. For every 10 that grew only 1 would actually take hold and grow. Just my experience.

Could be heat Linus, it was a ridiculous 97 here yesterday, plus lots of humidity.
Good to hear Jay. I'm hoping that's all, but my fear now is gsb. There was an amber drop on the neck of my longest last night.

I’ve had trouble with soft tips last year but only when they get over 100 inches. Otherwise, I have to pull them off by the dozens, weekly.
