Any help would be appreciated! I have grown pumpkins in the past, but this will be my first real attempt at growing a "giant". I had an Atlantic Giant that grew to about 75lbs on its own a few years ago. This year I am trying to follow "the rules" and hoping for a beauty that is few hundred pounds. :) I live in northern California. Vines are looking good. Many big leaves and I had a female blossom open this morning about 10 ft down the main vine (hand pollinated, but it's going to be 95 here today), with a second developing about 11 ft down. I am mainly looking for fertilizing, vine pruning (for later), and watering suggestions. I don't quite understand how to calculate water in inches using 2 gallon drip emitters. Again, ANY and ALL advice would be sincerely appreciated. Thank you!!

Kim- I don't think you could do any better than following any/all suggestions that Russ P. has for you, he is one of the top growers in the world. You are extremely lucky to have him close by as a resource.

to assure success every new grower needs a experienced mentor.
listen,learn,apply your mentors methods for success before experiencing with success and failure on your own.
half of your success is prevention before problems occur.
a good mentor will know these signs.

Be thankful to have an experienced grower that will give you the time of day!! Took me four years to get my first and only 1000lber. Fifth year I did get a Howard Dill winner, but, have struggled the last couple due to poor pest control. There is sooo much to learn, but, experience is the best teacher. Be patient and read all you can of things you do not understand. Many things won't make sense right away, but in time you'll see things in your plant growth and remember reading about it, and what to do to succeed!
