So much to learn in my first year and everybody's diaries are helping immensely. My question is about when to call it quits. From what I've seen most stem splits are survivable but blossom end splits are not. Is this true? Second part, is there anything you can do for a blossom end split? I swear I saw one person keep growing with one this year but I can't find it now. Just trying to arm myself for when the inevitable happens down the road.

I looked at your diary i don't see a picture of your bes...could you take one so we can see it.

If the bes goes completely through it is game over.

Sorry. I didn't mean I have one. I just was asking to know.

If a stem split advances into the fruit & into the cavity it is game over.
Rarely you can see a fruit with a BES still grow some temporarily but it inevitably becomes infected.
I had a BES on my AG 3 years ago & we attempted to disinfect it & apply some caulk.
Within a week we had a horribly smelly 400 lb mess!

Game over if either makes a hole into the interior.Stem splits need to be probed to check for depth. Some huge stem splits don't go deep and the fruits are fine.

over if either lets air in the fruit.
