Is there a preferred direction in growing your plant?. Stump and grow to the north, south, east, or west? Does it make a diffrence?

I'm not sure if it matters but I have had my best luck growing north to south or east to west

As a rookie I hated these smartass answers. The best I can say is green side up. But it makes no difference, but you can control it to go the direction you want it to grow. Have a great season n d.

I believe the leaves twist to get best sun exposure. I agree with pumpkinpal2, protect your plant from the winds.

Keep asking away. If you have a tree line blocking the sun, then I would plant in the direction that gets the most morning sun. My thinking is that you want your plants to warm up quicker on cold mornings. Your mileage may vary.

They want to grow towards the light. That applies to the secondaries also. They won't want to grow towards the shade. If you want even symmetrical growth, and good forward growth... just have similar amounts of light in all the directions you want the plant to grow. The sunny parts of the plant will draw nutrients better and cells will divide better. In my experience that's where the plant will have the most health & energy. So aim for your pumpkin to be in a sunny spot, I don't think the cardinal directions matters though... other than heading southwest generally gives the most sun.

The best answer is grow where the newest leaves have the most amount of sunlight at the end of the season that is what is going to power your pumpkin at the end, but with that said all your leaves are solar panels.
