with a spring cover crop? We planted a 50% ryegrain,20% winter pea and 10 each of vetch,buckwheat and dutch clover over a section of garden at rest. Do I just water and watch it grow till the end of the season, then till it in? Mow periodically? Is there time for another follow up cover crop of something else like mustard. I've read where there is maturation time for optimum results. First timer here. Thank you for any insights or opinions.

You might mow it or weed wack it to keep some of your cover crop from maturing and going to seed.Its healthy for your soil to keep it alive and green all season.Theres no disease suppression by tilling it in like mustard.

no advice yet from ME, and i am doing the cover crop thing of my own Grand Design, lol, except, for the benefit of any OTHERS, i took back 3 bags of OATS that were gonna be alleopathic, meaning that they would prevent other crops from growing for up to 3 weeks after killing them with a glyphosate weed killer, for instance; Wheat is now my next, CHEAP weed to grow and even THAT is not yet off the starting line - unrelated fully to the initial question, but hoping it helps somebody; I am doing Dutch White Clover also once i get my main patch 'resurfaced', hopefully TODAY - yippee! 2003 Haist awaits a home...ooooohhh...eg

Might not have to water here in wa lol. If you want deep roots/ less work... I would say dont water much at all and let the plants reach full size. Not sure what your goal is. Optimal soil for next year I suppose. Either way should be fine... Mowing leaving the clippings should be good for the soil too?
