So, My vines are at the fence line. I could let them keep growing up and over the fence but the deer would probably just eat them. My vines are growing everywhere and I need to stop a few of them. Best method? How long should I let the main grow. At this point I would need to wrap it around the back of the pumpkin original planting site- if it keeps growing. I now have to use the back entrance to my garden because I underestimated how much space they would take. My herbs have been swallowed up. Gone. Note : I do have a pollinated pumpkin - so that is the good news.

You can prune them at the fence line.Keep the plant confined to your original planned space. The pumpkin will like it.

you might wanna take into account a couple of feet before the physical barrier for the size the leaves will to get once the juice has nowhere to go - so, leave room enough for yourself to walk between the ends of the vines/leaves and the fence line and the leaves will fill in even THAT space after a week or so. i, myself think it's pretty cool that i can chop off any vine and allow the next available bud before the severance to grow out at a right angle FROM the vine that i chopped off, and i wonder if it matters to the plant if its main main is severed and yet allowed to grow (at a right angle, now) in any desired direction - good luck---eg
