I am new to pumpkin growing and would like to grow one with my 4 yr old grand daughter(Nora). She loves to grow things and help in the garden so I thought this would be a great experience for her. With that being said I was wondering if anyone would like to share some pumpkin seeds if I sent a self addressed bubble pack.

Around that time of year it would be good to have a baby plant already (if you are aiming at growing an Atlantic Giant). Starting seeds the last week of May or 1st week of June might give you a plant ready for pollination around 1st week of August, which is a bit late for a fruit which can grow and add weight for 3 months. End of May or beginning of June is a good time for starting field pumpkin seeds. (In their case, pollination around 1st week of August is fine, they usually have fruit growth for 4 - 6 months, sometimes a bit longer.) If you and your grand daughter are looking for something impressive which you can carry off the patch by hand or in a wheelbarrow (at least in the first year of her giant gardening career), a giant field pumpkin would be the thing I would recommend right now. There should be plenty of growers on this site who might offer you some great FP seeds with potential of growing beautiful 100+ pounders.

Thank you very much for the info I appreciate all I can get just a good size pumpkin at first is just to goal to see if she is even gonna hold the interest with me on growing a giant one but yes at some point I’d like to grow a giant to say I can do it. I love gardening and planting but have never had the opportunity to grow a giant. A friend of mine told me bout this site to get me started on my journey.

I grew a seed of my own in 2003 and had a 510.6-pounder off of it that got sold before I even had it unstrapped from the trailer - ahhh, memories...supply and demand...So, anything can happen and thanks, 'king, for the prompt for FPs and I would have sent some of them, too but since I, too don't even have AGs in the ground yet (but 42 of them in the basement, lol!) then, soon, the race will be on!

It's a shame that seeds go extinct when they coulda grown more like this one.
That is on ME - I did grow it again but with so many choices, how can one know without sprouting that one seed every year? Ahhh, something to ponder.

Raining (was, lol) in CNY today and so I will simply 'plan the plan' for tomorrow since it's supposed to be sunny out; I'd of course rather have had a rainstorm TOMORROW and planted what I could then, even in the rain, after having killed weeds today. I saw an advert for whatever recently that said 'Step 1. Take a Step...'

@Sankalp: It is amazing what can be done in a 150 sqft patch. With proper watering and a good dose of fertilizer, your brother will be bigger than you in about 4 months ;)

I'd be thrown off this 'site for saying all the things that start with 'Holy' at the moment, lol! I'll just go with 'WOW!'; 'Zat my 188? 'Cause if it IS, it's unrecognizable to me for how monstrous it looks at this early stage - I've bragged to some about how it was like Jurassic Park out there when I had two of them growing out in back and they were like overtaking the area, but, wow, it must be loving that soil and I see there's some vine burying going on as well...I admire that soil - no weeds and VB is a snap! Tremendous! Keep it up and us apprised - I'm sure your cat is saying 'Mommy...that thing just moved...Mommy, get me out of here...Meeeeooowwww???'

That isn’t the 188 one it’s the other I can’t member the numbers I lost the packet. I have 3 planted one is still small the other one is doing good as well got tiny pumpkins on main vine. The only problem so far with this one is it keeps putting pumpkins on secondaries instead of the main vine. The area where it is planted had peanuts growing there last year. Thank you trying to keep it weed free is a chore. Grand daughter is very excited and amazed at it already can’t wait till she gets to see the pumpkin growing.

Not sure what the consensus is on here but there was a post at some point depicting the diffs between main vine fruits and secondary vine fruits - One is slower to start but ended up bigger and the other was the opposite, etc., lol---I forget. I be tired, too---
It may be a goal to have a main vine fruit but I always start out with 3, each as far away from the others as possible and there CAN be secondary fruits that far outdo main vine ones for ME in my experience; I would not do/pollinate any within 10 feet of the stump on the main and also I'd not have more than ONE on any vine unless I had a plan (not THIS year, lol) because I've seen that a plant CAN abort earlier pollinations in favor of later ones, so, I keep what is handed me if it's at a good angle (more like a right angle) to the vine with a good shape to it (symmetrical, picturesque).
Either weigh, narrowing it down from 3 to 1, with 1 being the biggest the soonest,
works OK for me!
Seems you have planted and are growing the 178 Gerry '14 (492 Gerry X 1421.5 Stelts),
