How many people from a fixed address can win money per class at a GPC sanctioned weigh-off?

By the listed rules, it mentions GPC prizes (such as jackets) as one per fixed address. Per sanctioned GPC weighoff, it does not mention.
"The GPC will only pay one monetary prize per fixed address per class. A fixed address will be defined as a parcel of land used by growers and/or teams to grow their entries."
All other reading mentions only the GPC for the top awards only. Sites must follow rules for scales, measuring, soundness judging and color; and how entries are measured and judged. Only thing it mentions about sites and multiple entries from grower or team is to to contact site first bfore bringing such to see if they can accomodate.
This needs a GPC official I think.

Yeah, I know what the rule says. So I guess any number of people can win prize money from one fixed address. It seems like it could be stated more clearly.

Sometime in the past a memory said two from one address... and at least here, we are now tied to the fair, which allows one entry per person... which we capped at two per household (fixed address)for anyone 15 or older. Because we have junior class, it's one per minor. Again, if a GPC official could clarify, it'd be nice.

Spin it how you want...this looks bad...kind of like reading a horse racing form...patterns developing!!

Are they knocking anyone else out of the GPC prizes? I think not...so is this questioning really worthy of the message boards?

GPC awards are limited to one monetary prize per fixed address per class. GPC sanctioned weigh-offs can award as many monetary prizes per fixed address per class that they want. All that I'm saying is the language in the GPC rules could be changed to make this less confusing. It just seems like it can be stated more clearly. Lisa I just asked a question. I'm not sure what your post means.

I still did ask if the GPC will clarify it, or make a ruling on it, and add that to the recently posted 'weighoff handbook'. Either they will or they won't. If they do we shall abide by any additions or changes to the rules.

Article III Section 3 & paragraph A
The GPC will only pay one monetary prize per fixed address per class. A fixed address will be defined as a parcel of land used by growers and/or teams to grow their entries.
Article II Section 1 paragraphs A & B The entry must be exhibited by the grower or team. In the case of an emergency where the grower or team cannot be present to exhibit the entry, the site coordinator, club/grower representative, and site representative will make a determination regarding the validity of a grower or team’s absence. "Grower" is defined as a person who has grown and cared for the entry from planting to harvest. "Team" is defined as any two or more "Growers" who exhibit together.
It doesn't matter if it is husband, wife, son, daughter, friend, relative, group of independent growers,.....
If more than 1 grower from 1 fixed address/same parcel of land are eligible for GPC money only the biggest entry will get the money. The money will then be passed down to the next eligible place in line till the money has been completely distributed.
If the wording is confusing how would you word it?

Is a GPC sanctioned weigh-off, for example Roba's, covered under the above rule or is it up to the site to determine prize money per fixed address at that site? Say a father and son grow at the same fixed address and they place 4rth and 5th do they both get prize money or does just one get prize money?

That is my question too. It says the GPC. Is it for the GPC top tier prizes (such as $5000 bonus for the first 2k pumpkin) or is it the SITE that is GPC sanctioned? That is what is not clear in wording. As it reads it seems to indicate the GPC prizes paid directly or awarded directly from the GPC itself. If it means the sites sanctioned, that must be mentioned in the wording.

I may not be clear there either...
Article III Section 3 & paragraph A
"the GPC will only pay one monetary prize per fixed address per class."
This seems to indicate the GPC itself as there are awards given directly from the GPC.
If it said "The Site sanctioned by the GPC will only pay one monetary prize per fixed address per class."
I would take it as that is how all sites must deal with entries and award prize money.
Article 2 and further, deals with the fact that the person that grew it, or a member of the team that grew it, must present the entry in person to the weighoff for it to be entered....
"If more than 1 grower from 1 fixed address/same parcel of land are eligible for GPC money..."
Again this seems to indicate only the GPC level awards handed out directly by the GPC.
"If more than 1 grower from 1 fixed address/same parcel of land are eligible for prize money awarded by a Site that is GPC sanctioned..."
Is very clear that the site's prize money is the one referred to.
So this is to mean that where it said GPC prize money it means the site prize money? That is what isn't clear.

GPC money is from a different pot than the money given out by the site organizers.

The rule applies to GPC money/ prizes only. We encourage the individual sites to follow this rule for there own prize mony schedual, however the official stance of the GPC is not to regulate how individual sites pay out there prizes.

Thanks John, for the clarification. Thats what I thought but you can see how people could be confused. Heck it took 15 posts to get the correct answer to my original question! I said GPC "sanctioned" weigh-off.

So in laymans terms... I mean pumpkin growers terms,, GPC Money/prizes are the end of year awards... Correct? But on a second note, thats a pretty discouraging rule for people trying to promote the future of our sport to our children. Gee you can enter an win an event, but come year end one of us might not be eligible for more prizes, that doesn't make any sense. Im sure it hasnt or rarely happens, but it could. And the same for sharecropping types. MR X has a farm with acres and Mr. Y wants to grow but has no land. Uses Mr X's.. Now he's not eligible (for year end awards)?? Guess its a matter of a different mailing address in both situations. Solves that. Bunch of Heavy Hitter, father & son, husband & wife senarios out there already, has it been an issue with them? thats my interpretaion and 2 cents worth. Doesnt really effect me unless I and my daughter grow some bombs in the future. We are a ways off yet.

Okay, well, thank you very much for the responses, Dave and John... so the rules as written <now> apply to the GPC monies only.
We will take this under advisement for our weighoff rules.
Thank you very much.

Sweet, The GPC is introducing a new segment to our Las Vegas growers gathering 2/24 - 26/2012. This will be Friday afternoon where we will have a session open to all growers that focuses on the site itself which will cover questions like this.
Be on the look out at every GPC sanctioned weigh-off this fall for your 2012 Las Vegas regitration forms.

Dave, Great, thanks for the reply. It might be something to discuss and if there is enough conern or opposition to it, a motion to ammend could be considered, or brought forth at directors meeting or where ever it is handled. I'm leaning towards attending, and will make the meeting if I am there. Thanks Peter

I like the GPC rule. I own 3 different parcels with 3 different fixed addresses. so, if I grow pumpkins on all three parcels, that means I can win three different GPC prizes right?
