Is the 1097 known to not be very drought tollerant? During the hot spell, my 1097 fared the worst of any plant I had. She is dammaged to the point I'm not sure if I'm going to get a pumpkin off here at all. early females aborted. Growing point burn't out, trained new one but slow to recover. Severe leaf dammage. Slow apearence of new females. I have a couple of pumpkins pollinated on seconadaries. So....What is better a pumpkin late pollinated on the main or a early one on a secondary?

Country, I have very little wilting on my 1097 Beachy during the 90 to 95 heat during mid day,so far its my best plant as far as heat goes.

Yes, 1097's suck. And, as a public service , I am gathering all the 1097's now so they can be properly destroyed so as to not contaminate the future of AG's. We need to keep these double vining, heat intolerant, swirly-twisty-tipped, seeds in the blossom plants out of our gene pool ! So.....lets give them a proper burial and send all future mutant-producing 1097 Beachy seeds to : A Proper Burial c/o Glenn Andrews 256 N.Beech St No. Massapequa, NY 11758

my 1097 wilts easily and got scorched a few times too.
but i cant complain about mutant females this year; last year i NEVER got a normal female, this year, the first one was a charm. perfect.

The one I have growing the heat doesn't seem to be bothering it. The leaves are real small, smaller than the one I had last year but the soil sample did not look that good in my lower garden.

98 degrees today and my daughters 1097 was wilting more then the rest of plants in the patch. Its had some leaf burn but so have the rest of the plants. All in all I'd have to say it was slightly below average for heat tolerance. Glen..Sorry no more 1097's in the freezer.

my 664.5 liggett seed was same as others in beggining (1005 mombert X 1097 beachy)except didnt tolorate heat as good!!it was slow grower, but did manage to get 300 sq ft, leaves are small, the pumpkins that came had huge stems . but soon after i could see more serious problems the hole plant stoped growing, then pumpkin stoped growing then started to get weird like slices around it ( not from growing too fast) IT ABSOULUTLY SUCKS THAT I POLLINATED MY OTHER PUMPKINS WITH THAT SEED !! good newes is that my seed from last yr the 872.5 is doing great except that the seeds will still have that gene in them !!shaaaaaaa !!!!! dont let the mother know!! its the grandmas seeds that are good !!872.5 is 898 X 845 ---846 X 810,, now thats a cross!! if you could get the people to grow the 872.5 like they did the 1097,, well !!!! there are a few !! & mine so far is even surpassing the 1104.5 hester that im growing !!

fissssssssh ... in the future you should look into and consider self pollinations. :)

Fisssh, It's possible that the problems you had with the 664.5 Ligget were environmental, and not genetic. If so, your crosses may be very good.
