I'm looking for help. First time grower here and soooo many decisions. My list of seeds follows and I'm calling upon you wise folks to help me pick 5 to plant and which way I might cross them. Should I save certain seeds for the future or just get rid of them all and avoid getting sucked any deeper into this madness. Thanks in advance

This is your first season so my first question is, how well prepared will your patch be? Second, how well prepared are you? Have you done your research? All of these factors are way more important than what seed you plant. All of those seeds could grow you a 1000 lb pumpkin.
What do you want out of the seeds? Do you want the biggest pumpkins and don't care what they look like? Or do you want to grow better looking pumpkins?

Good questions Pharmer. Patch is ready to go. Patch was in strawberries last year. Soil test done and all that is needed is N to start. Been raising 6000-10000 regular pumps/yr for wholesale for years at different location. Familiar with most pests & problems. Drip irrigation & fert injectors in place (use for strawberries also). 1st goal - TN state record first year out of gates, looks don't matter to me. 2nd goal - Meet some other great growers and make new friends. Main Goal - Have a blast with the grandkids. (I know I'll get to do most all the work)

Brotherdave, All those seeds look promising. The following three seem to have great potential IMHO. 1462 Gibson 1235.5 Deletas 1010 Delatas

Brotherdave, the only proven seed that you have is the 1142 van Kooten so I think that it is a logical one to grow. It has grown many nice large pumpkins including 1384 Holland, 1287 van Kooten, 1176 Daletas, 1162 Carfoot and 1101 van Kooten.
New grower or not....might as well plant and grow a proven seed. (and cross it with the 1235.5 Daletas)

I have to agree with Glenn Brotherdave. That's a great looking bunch of seeds you got there but the 1142 is a proven winner. I'd start with that one and work on the other 4 choices.

Some great looking 2007 seeds there.
1462 Gibson 1157 Companion 1010 Daletas 1009 Young 1235.5 Daletas
I really like the 1157 Companion (998 Pukos X 1150 Daletas) We all know what the 998 can do, but the 1150 look s like a great pollinaotr for the 998. The cross of the 1150 is 1180 Daletas X 898 Knauss!

Brotha Dave, in response to goal #2...I think the closest GPC weigh off to where you live is the KGPG weigh off at Bear Wallow Farms, near Somerset, KY. Cmon up with yer giant, and help us enjoy the fun, 3rd Sat. in Sept. this year I think. New GA., and KY. state records set at our first weighoff last year, why not make it a tri-state thing!!!??? Peace, Wayne PS...would that be a new record??? 3 state records set at one weighoff???!!!!!!!
