This time of year everybody naturally is concentrating on seeds of recent years to grow their next PB and it is easy to forget about their ancestors from earlier years.
This list shows the 2003 most frequent ancestors of the 2008 top 100 AGs.First number shows repetitions.
61-1068 Wallace 42-1180 Daletas 42-1104 Hester 40-1301 Eaton 22-1370 Rose 7-822 Hester 6-1225 Jutras 4-1247 Handy 3-664 Liggett 3-500 Wallace 2-756 Kennedy (sq) 2.1367 Rose (sq)

Wondering if these 12 AGs from 2003 had some common factor that helped them survive in the extremely competitive gene pool,I went to AGGC and looked at the "weight vs tables" figure for each one.
Of the 12 AGs--10 went heavy,1 light and 1 had no info.
Average of the 11 was 7% over estimate.
The fact that 10 out of 11 went heavy speaks for inself.I think these AG genes survive partially because they were "heavy" and partially because many of their descendants were heavy vs the charts,as well as vs the scales.
Therefore,if a grower has a range of seeds to choose from,I think the above evidence shows that starting only "heavy" seeds is a good option to consider.----Nothing really new here, but it reinforces what most of us already know.
