My daughter Sami is growing 2 plants this year. One for weight (991 Urena) and one for color. For the color one, she wants to grow a "red" pumpkin. What seed would you plant to try to get a red pumpkin?

Chuck, the classic orange are 500 Northup who made 1290 Poirier , but you can try also some Savage seeds ( Hi Brent ) : 458 Savage 08 (1290 Poirier x 1689 Jutras ) great cross 535,5 Serengeti Savage 08 (769 Lombardi x 1290 Poirier )
A nice color seed is the 798 Lawson 08 available on Seedoutlet.com Stéphane

879 Zoellner was 1317 Rose x 1290 Poirier
I'm putting one of them in this year, as the cross looks solid, with the mother having a good shape, and the pollinator being very orange. I think color tends to come from the male side.

Any thought's on the 1307 dmg Poirier ('0?) "(20" of rain in August caused its early demise)". I was just given the seed by George Caron, when I told him I was going for color. He blind folded me & took me to his stash. Thanks again George.

You may want to try the 535 Zaychkowsky (810 Dill x 1370 Rose). Nobody has grown it yet but my money is on it having nice color, size and shape.

I think the 730 Dill has a real good chance for dark orange-red.

I was just corrected. The 535 Zaychowsky has been planted. Good size but not the dark red based on the pictures I've seen.

I haven't seen an AG yet that will throw that smooth and shiny red consistently. If you don't care about size, maybe take Longmont Pete's advice and contact Paul Rys. I think he's a Californian like you.
