With the new 2009 pumpkin seed available now on pumpkinlink.com I decided to do some queries against the database to find which seeds were the top producing seeds based on their progeny's average weight. I pulled back only results for seeds that have had at least 3 or 4 progeny gone to scale so that pumpkins that aren't "proven" wouldn't sneak into the list. Some of the top seeds in the results were seeds that you expected to see, some seeds placed much higher in ranking than you might have guessed and some seeds are probably hidden gems that haven't been talked about enough but based on average weight of their progeny they have out performed some of the more popular seeds. You can view the results at www.pumpkinlink.com/topseeds.asp.

Thanks for the data.
I think it would also be interesting to see the data calculated a little bit differently, I would be interested in seeing how the results would differ if you where to cap the progeny to 3 and 4 of the top pumpkins produced by a particular seeds and take the avg. weight of those top 3 and 4 progeny.
Instead of having some pumpkins with 20 or 25 progeny avg. together only use the top 3, 4 or even 5 progeny to avg.

Pumpkin Picker - This was a tough database query to figure out but I think I got it right. The following are the top seeds based on progeny's top three pumpkins:

Oops. The query above was for pumpkins having a minimum of 10 pumpkins gone to scale. The following is with a minimum of 4 pumpkins gone to scale but only including the average of the top 3 pumpkins:
991 Urena 1352 1161 Rodonis 1342 1556.5 Werner 1313 1350.5 Starr 1308 904 Stelts 1289 985 Werner 1288 1450 Wallace 1272 1068 Wallace 1243 1385.5 Jutras 1221 1248.6 Ford 1207 998.6 Pukos 1202 1207.4 Young 1192 664.5 Liggett 1190 1566 Rodonis 1184 1308.5 Mckie 1180 1446.5 Werner 1173 1092 Martin 1119 1231.3 Pukos 1118 1041.5 Mckie 1102 500 Wallace 1093 1502 Wallace 1093 1370 Rose 1066 275 Van Hook 1056 1306 Jutras 1046 1005 Miller 1044

Double oops. Both data sets is the average of the top 4 pumpkins not three. It is getting too late and it has been a busy and long week. Lol

What is the 1123 Gervais? I don't know anything about this seed. Does anyone else?

There is no 1123 Gervais in the AGGC database which is probably what he used.

The cross in the Pumpkin Link records was never listed for the 1123.5 Gervais '07 so that is why the seed isn't displayed in the drop down search on Pumpkin Link. Progeny have done very well though. If Ian could tell us the cross I would love to have it added.

Looks like the 1123.5 was grown from the 956 Giffon. The database record didn't have the .5 after the 1123 so it wasn't picking it up. No pollinator is listed however.
