I was wondering the same thing. Other than dedicated orange growers, the 2009 is pushing weights to new heights and lowering the number of big orange ones. Like a dramatic change in pumpkin evolution lol.

I agree Mark.. I feel that orange has worked it's way into much of the best genetics. The 2009 seems to cross well with orange too.

I'm looking for heavy orange genetics, too. I'm hoping we'll get rid of blossom end splits and large seed cavities in the near future so we will see a 2000 lb plus ORANGE pumpkin.

Bubba, You have your work cut out for you. Almost every pumpkin over 1800 lbs has the 1725 Harp in it. That is clearly the next genetic advancement in our hobby. No color in that at all. Breeding orange in there and still getting the weights is going to be very hard IMO. I have been working on it for a few years now. With the exception of 1 fluke, they have all been pale outcomes. Maybe 100 plants over the last 4 or 5 years?
Good luck!

I think that the 1495 Stelts genetics is the direction to look for adding heavy to the orange lines. The 1791 Holland and the 1770 Leiber both had a lot of orange in their coloring and the 1813 Northrup was cream colored but was tinted more to the orange side of cream than the green side. 1495s just about always go heavy to the chart. I think if we can get some of those genetics in with some of the heavier orange guys we may have something that could push towards 2000 and still look nice and orange.

You might consider 1784 Glazier 13 (1730 Werner x 1770 Lieber). Mine had good shape and color. Went heavy and nearly 1200 in TN. If I grew for color I'd grow it again.

my 1399 still could of gotten bigger if I knew what I was doing:) I almost stopped feeding a month before the weigh off. because I just wanted to get a pumpkin to my first weigh off. I'm defiantly growing this one next year and will be pumping her full, this time.

A 1495 x 1730 cross might give a nice, orange and big pumpkin.
