I would. My 636 HD winner was a 562.5 Minor x 1662 Stelts cross.
Although I have to note some growers have grown white pumpkins off the seed.

Yep I would too. I burnt through 10, 1016 Daletas, 3, 810 dills, 3, 993 Vincent this year. None germinated and I can general pop these old ones, So if your thinking about planting it, then do it before it's too late

You guys have a point.i grew one in 2010 that was a heck of a hard starter then. The pumpkin my daughter and I grew from it was just blah cream color. I'd like to pop one of those orange monsters it I do get it to germ.

Scott, your question is would I grow the 1662 I had one. The answer is yes only if my hypothetical goal is to put increased heaviness into my line while keeping the odds of success (of growing orange) 50/50. If the pumpkin does not produce orange, for me in this situation, would be failure. Even if it was very large. Because there are a ton of seeds out there that will grow a potentially bigger - and less attractive pumpkin, on some level you must make the choice between heavy and orange. I like to grow one "dark horse" orange pumpkin that was enormous but maybe will go orange plus big per year. If this is how you feel, then the 1662 might be your seed. For me, if I am going to gamble, I would do so on a newer seed with higher genetic potential. Specifically one grown recently that wasnt grown for or supposed to be orange but ended up that way. From 2014 I mean something like the 1561 reeb or the 1817 mcconkey for example. Unexpectedly huge pumpkins that were selfed are of course a plus. So my long answer to your question is no I would not plant a 1662 provided that I have better big seeds ( like the 2009) and better orange seeds (like the 811). Listen to your heart.
