Just wondering your thoughts regarding how the potential of these two seeds compare.
My guess it that the 1734.5 would, on average, throw more consistant orange, and darker orange(on average), than the 1317. I'm just basing this on the fact that the 1734.5 is selfed, and was one of the darkest orange 1317's I've seen pictured.
As to which has better size potential; what do you think here? Being the 1317 is proven to near 2000 lbs. already, you can't argue with that.
Just curious to hear any thoughts regarding this subject.

I like the 1998 jutras/1538 jutras. Biggest 1317 with a nice outcross 1918 barron/1730 werner HD winner. For big and orange nuff said.

Thanks for your opinions. I'm thinking of making a cross next year that might produce seeds that could result in big and orange pumpkins. My own 603.5 Muller X self is one I'm planning on. I'm leaning toward the 1734.5 Clementz as a pollinator, as it's selfed as well. I could be wrong, but maybe some hybrid vigor could result from this cross.

we might have to compare notes next year doug. I am planning on growing the 552 Minor 2015 and crossing it one way or the other with my 356 Borgers 2015. What are you calling your 603.5 x self? .

I'm calling my 603.5 Muller 03 X self the 435.5 Wallace 2015 est. Unfortunately I didn't get an official weight on it.

off topic : i have only one seed left in my possession that i dont have memory of the growth. ..."before my time"
The handwritten envelope identifies it to be the : 825 Johnson 2006 (f) 842 Eaton (m)1068 wallace
i dont know any history of this seed
do you think i am safe in assuming that it is (f) 842 Eaton 2002 (m) 1068.2 Wallace 2003
If i some year grow this seed...i would like to restore the genetics back into pedigree.

bnot the 825 pumpkin was grown by Gerald Johnson a former MN State Record holder of both giant pumpkin and squash. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=1&p=193379
