What would you say the top 5 pumpkin seeds are in relation to competition purposes? I would like to hear what people out there are thinking. Of course it's highly subjective, but would be fun to hear what others are thinking. Sometimes sharing thoughts on seeds can get people thinking about seeds that they may not have considered all that much otherwise.

My list:
1. 2145 McMullen-Seems like the consensus #1 on the board.
2. 2009 Wallace-Record of production stands alone.
3. 2096 Meier-Low seed count, but impressive weight totals.
4. 800 McMullen-Set state record in a hard to grow place.
5. 1385 Howell/Jolivette-Over 2,100 lbs. w/ only one grown.

Brungard has some good stuff he is working with... no one has tried his 1951... ?

There is the top five really proven seeds and then there is the top five genetic lines which look like they may be very good but have not been extensively grown or have yet to be grown. Regarding the latter... 2075 Connolly looks great. The 2307 Wallace. 2106 Schmidt. I know these will get planted but maybe not a lot because the top growers are so competitive they are choosing to grow multiple McMullens. It will be interesting to see the results.
This unusual extraplanting could slightly skew the stats in favor of the McMullen if top growers grow (for example) three plants but submit only the weight of the heaviest fruit from their best plant...

Yes @Rick... 1756 is underrated. It really is (by me also). Will more seeds be avail. from your 1756? I didn't see a lot up for auction and because folks wanted them... I figured the 1774.5 Carter (1756 x self) was as close as I could get.

Who also has great genetics? Yes, Martin, Carter, Sherwood, and others (at least a few CA growers) have some top genetics.

Proven best so far in my opinion are1495 stelts ,1625 ganter 1916 Barron 1725 harp 2009 Wallace and the future ones 2145, 1756, and any thing with the top 5 crossed watch hoelke adkins Connelly

How can I get some of these good seeds to grow a big one. I am a new grower and only got a 200 pounder but proud it made it that big. I have never worked so hard to grow something in my life. Fun but frustrating. Any help is appreciated

CarlaSue, wait a couple of months, and keep in touch w/this site, and you will see...many, many, many...clubs holding seed auctions! Do the research now to know what you want to bid on, for the extreme seed that you want! Peace, Wayne

Dr. Gene Etic, it seems sort of amazing to me that you being the Dr. that you are...have seemed to have missed something! Dr. John Van Sand Bagus...seems to have found a way to produce pkn after pkn after pkn...that are 15% or more over the chart? Maybe some consideration for the best pkn grower in KY., should get some recognition!!
Maybe, just may be...it's not the seed, it's the grower!!
