Hello what are the potentials of growing a world record pumpkin next year or 2019 growing season. I've already cancelled my world record attempt earlier this year cause of the crazy weather we had and the unexpecting weather of a hard freeze on April 29th. Thanks

In Kansas...are chances are always very slim. I set goals for myself each year, goal number 1 is beat my personal best of 938, goal 2 break 1000 pounds, goal 3 have a pumpkin grow for over 90 days.

These are all reasonable and doable goals, expecting a world record without a really nice green house in Kansas is like expecting mother nature to give us high in the 80's all summer long.

Ks watermelon--the best conditions for your WR attempt tend to be northern areas of the states and southern Canada that are adjacent to large bodies of water that help buffer temps.It can be done elsewhere but only by greenhouses or sophisticated misting systems that modify the conditions. You have to move or really change your temperatures where you live-I know ,Colorado sucks also. Its all about the temps -daytime and nighttime to grow bigger than 2624.5

Well anyhow world record pumpkin attempt
A big poly tunnel a very in depth irrigation system with a heavy emphasis on rain water holding capacity.... ( if it was me I would have drip, misters, impact sprinklers going on a mega mana fold and a full on computer controlled moisture sensing system full on automation)
A back hoe to dig out all the natural soils and then add in a rubber membrain base with a crushed stone base with a lot of man maid growing media I mean semi loads
Then figure out a complex fert program including insect and disease prevention and also a Curative plan and then roll that program on a 2 week rotation alternating those chemicals ... a ton of fans to cool and also to vent plant gases and also a nice co2 machine running heavy during daylight hours and venting at night
Well I think the above might grow a 3 k kin.... however then real kicker an amazing plant that wants to perform under the above conditions ... I mean it's late and haven't truly thought this threw but I think that's a start

I might also add a very good lighting system to maximize plant potential early and late season a mix of led and t 5 vho 8 bulb hoods prefer bad boys a truck load of them would be nice

So far is not good year for me! Last year is my first time and grew 135 pounds. I know its not big but good for my first pumpkin. I expect to beat my personal best this year but I don't know. Cold May, hot & dry June then heavy rain end of June and July! I asked Ron Wallace for good luck to break world record pumpkin and he said not this year! I am learning and have several giant pumpkin and tomatoes books!

Keep your head up Illinois, my first one to hit the scale was 256 and it took me another 6 years or so to break 400. Not all about the WR.... but if I had to point to one thing, you won't even come close until your soil is dialed in. WR potential seeds don't grow WR kins in soil that isn't perfect, and lots of seeds have the potential to grow the next WR. Understanding your soil (your own soil and climate) better than everyone else and correcting deficiencies before they visibly show are keys to getting the big ones. Any dip in vigor reduces your chances. You need as I believe Ron would say "luxury amounts available at all times" to include nutrients and water. Also, I believe a rest on your soil is important in order to let it recuperate from the heavy load of a previous giant. Think about this... Why did Ron wait 4 years before moving back to the patch that put out the very first ever 2000 lb pumpkin? You think he wasn't itching to use his "best" soil again the next year?

Watermelon, there seems to be a sweet spot in latitude north of us ranging from the upper Midwest, Northeast and into Canada. California too, but they are a whole different animal. I think the longer hours of sunlight daily up north and moderate temps are a huge factor.

Good seed, good dirt & Lots of hard work....I think is what Pap said several years ago! He also added "lot's of good luck", I think...which imho, discludes you from growing a WR? Not meaning to be kruel, but it's to hot!!! That's the good luck part...proper temps! Pkns like cooler weather than melons!
