How much of the advancement in weight has been genetics as compared to advancements in growing techniques? What would the big ones from 8 or 10 years ago have done today(I realize there is no way of actually knowing that)? There was a 1059 VM grown in 2017 taping 428 before it quit and that is a huge advancement in size over what it has already grown .

Spudder, was the 1059 officially weighed somewhere? 428 ott = 1680. That would have been huge and orange. Any more info on the p-kin?
Thank you, Mark G.

Here is a link to the growers' answer about his pumpkins.

Here is a link to the one I was asking about which tied for biggest in S. California. It was pollinated by the 1059 and is from one that was out of the 1059. That is what caught my attention.

Not that I'm a great grower, but I'm growing a Stelts/wolf cross this year, hopefully big and orange.

I think its a combination of both... Obviously genetics plays a part.. as the 2145 McMullen has produced a lot of top quality 'kins... But also its been the better growers growing the larger pumpkins off that seed.. Now I'm a novice grower so take what I say for what its worth...lol.. But that's how I see it...
