So I'm trying to set my (ever-changing) line-up for this year. My main goal is HD quality and red-orange (obviously big too haha!). I've got a few other quality big seeds but I'm really liking the 689 Donahue because of its stem length. I think it'd be nice to get that quality into future generation pumpkins consistently. But it is on the small side, weight-wise.

So would it be worth pollinating it with something much bigger and see where that leads, or just go for guaranteed big/orange from other seeds?

I'm only allowed to grow 2-3 plants this year, per the Mrs.

Stem length varies per kin..I grew several off one plant last year and some were long...grew em because off the long stem....some were short ..others was long..one I didn't pay attention to out on the lawn in august had a stem about a foot long...genetics from both sides to deal with not including traits in ancestery...I only grow orange!!!

I'm going orange-first this year. I think I have my line up down to 6-7 lol. Still need the list smaller tho.

What seeds you planning on growing Big T

Keep the baby pumpkin shaded, it wants to reach the sun, so the stem gets longer. Point being, you can help it have a longer stem, so don't worry about stem length too much

I had a very short stemmed one go a bit short on the progeny also. I would vote yes. But I agree sunlight could be a big factor...
