It's a wire like mesh mat to place under your pumpkin to stop mice from going up and under your pumpkin. really used in making paper!

Could you use the mesh from an old screen door?

Can take a look here...this belting material is meant to go like a conveyor belt and is woven mesh like material.

Thanks for the link Chuck. It's not what I envisioned as being slick for a fruit to be able to slide easily as it expannnnnds? But those in the know swear by it! Duff

Lab,
That kinda looks like place mats that goes under plates that keeps them from sliding(not the plastic kind),or a material that goes inside your cupboards or draws to keep things from sliding.
Is it like a rubber type, styrofoam feeling material? or
is there little tiny wires in it? and is it hard to tear with just your hands?

It's not duff but and when I first used it i put some pretty good scrapes in the pumpkins...it's smoother then it looks and you can put a thin line of sand over it. the thing is it drains like a screen and is impervious to varmits...no way you could tear it by hand..excellent to move the pumpkin without disturbing it's placement by sliding the mat. it's made of different materials mine is wire like but I wouldn't swear it was steel..it's slippery but very strong.
