I bought a new one from Sears a couple years ago for 280 bucks, I have worn the thing out three times over. Good thing it had a two year warrenty. I should be getting it back from their repair shop in about a week :}

Look for a rear tine tiller Tom. They are much easier to maneuver than a front tine.

i got a big rear tine arines that takes a 8 hp motor for sale. it has good tires but the tines are wore slap out. my daddy in law bought it new several years ago and ran it til the motor blew. i then inherited it but have never used it. it seems like all the gears are in working condition. it would be a good winter project. i'd like to have $75.00 for it and you pay the freight. if interested i will email you a pic. thanks,keith

Pappy is right about the rear tine tiller, the front tine will beat you up but it will till the soil.

I'm looking into a Woods tiller with a 80 inch width and a till depth deeper than a walk behind. This will fit my JD 2010. Price for a new one is around $3,100. A little steep for me so I'm searching for a used one now....Tom

tom, those 3 point tillers work good until you hit a rock,i had one i put behind a 4010 jd (100 hp) and man it would tear up some ground but if you ever hit a good size rock all heck would break loose, i think i finally broke about 6 tines before i sold mine, it was a 5 or 6 foot long bushog brand..

Blkcloud, I plan on first plowing the patch, then having my twin 4 year old boys picking up the stone. lol. I'm also considering a used garden tractor with a smaller tiller for behind it. That way I can run between the rows for a little longer. Still debating....Tom

If you get a reverse till tiller(mines landpride)it kicks all the rocks ahead of the tiller and leaves a pile at the end of the garden.I bought mine for the pumpkins a few years ago and thought i would till a few gardens on the side to make a few bucks.Well i'm up to over 250 gardens a year so you can make some money with it too.

pumpkin kid, you must have small rocks where you live on my rock farm( a new crop every time it rains) the rocks are as big as softballs on average.. well i started out with a reverse tine tiller and could go about 3 feet before one got hung up between the tines and the frame then it took about 30 minutes to pry it out or take the tines off just to get the darn thing out... well after about tilling 2 rows i loaded that job up and sold it asap... good luck to ya..

Rocks!! lets see what i've unearhed with my tiller besides the regular old bottles bones and marbles, i've found a truck rim a large chain with some type of fittings on it that i have no idea what they are? a lawnmower blade a copper pipe and then i thought i found an airplane when i unearthed a large aluminum propeller, i had to hook a chain up to my truck and pull it out it was attached to a large General Electric motor, i just never know what'll find?

blkcloud it sounds like you do live in a rock garden.I have jammed a few.twice i've had to take off tines.Luckily most of the gardens i do have been gardens for years and there aren't many rocks.But softball size rocks don't give me problems just those basketball size ones.Jerry

Glenn that reminds me of when i use to grow on my old landords property.He spread septic sludge on his fields for over 30 years.I could go out there and have a GI Joe war or maybe find a few plastic dinosaurs to play with if i needed a break from the pumpkins.Jerry

we were dove hunting in a corn feild one day where septic sludge had been sprayed for several years, and man you wouldnt beleive the dadburn tomatoe plants that were growing out in the corn feild, we ate tomatoes until we couldnt go pick up our birds.. funny thing though.. i kept finding a bunch of funny shaped balloon looking things all over the feild and some of them even had a bunch of little pegs sticking out on the ends of them, we never did know what they were but they sure were fun to blow up and tie a knot in the end of em..

As a former septic tank pumper, I've seen those balloons as well! Never could figure out what they were used for!

Stan, i forgot to tell the rest of the mysterious balloon story, when we got done hunting the old dirt farmer that owned the feild was waiting at the truck for us, so i figured since he was so old he would know what these balloons were so i ask him what they were and he told me " well sonny if you can collect 365 of them in a years time you put em all together, make a tire out of em and call it a GOODYEAR!!!"

Iron levels are low according to the soil tests that have been done from U-mass i also found several disc harrows and other tractor implements under a pine tree.
I'm still looking to dig up the proverbial antique truck.

Went looking for a roto-tiller...sears had a front 6hp 18-26 inch for 400 bucks on sale..Good deal? or not. Home Depot had a honda 5 hp 12-24 inch same price not on sale. The ones for 3 hundred were all tiny 2 strokes 11 inch.. even my wife said no way. The rear tines were all much more.Any suggestions for a rookie plower. thanks Chuck

go with the rear tines . i got mine at sears ,7hp,big ,it runs forward and backwards with the tines ,it was a return i got it for 1/2 price .keep looking and a good deal will come up for you.

I just bought a 13HP rear tine rotary hoe. An Italian Psquali, about 15 years old. Just plowed up 1600sq ft of virgin soil. It kicked ass! Has a 2.5 ft cut and threw out 4 pound rocks like nothing else! The soil is as dark as can be. It will be a good patch indeed. I call it " THE @#$%ING BEAST" Although old it is in awesome condition, apart from the rusty fuel tank, which clogged up the fuel filter. But it runs perfect and was an absolute bargain. Barely been used!
