I wish you could offer free shipping on some of your fertilizers, the shipping is high!
Couldn't you ship some fertilizers in the priority mail flat rate boxes to minimize shipping cost? The shipping for some items is above $30 when you could put it in a $10.95 flat rate box and charge 5-10 dollars extra for handling.

thegrower, it is difficult to accomodate everyone, we certianly would like to offer free shipping, but then we would be out of business in no time. We do not set the shipping charges, our checkout is linked to our commercial account at UPS and the USPS, we enter the size and weight of items and it does the rest.
Its easy to second guess what could be done, but when shipping countless packages each month, we have to do what is right for everyone.
Thanks for the input.

Well, you must have a lot of customers...
I have wanted to order from you for months, and the only thing that has held me back is shipping charges.
Do you ship in flat rate boxes?
If not, I reccomend updating your calculator to account if the item will fit in a flat rate box. That would save a lot of money and get you many more customers.

Once again, thanks for the input, this is better done via email, no need to bore others with this.
I hope that you find a retailer that fits your budget near you.
Thanks again.

This isn't boring! I've had to pass on a few things from your store as well due to shipping costs but generally, your products are priced lower than most suppliers and I usually come out ahead after shipping is factored.

What we as customers need to realize is that profiting on shipping is sometimes part of the business model.

thegrower makes a great point in regard to the flat rate boxes though ;}

First off, I do not make profit on shipping, I am not selling shipping, I am selling gardening supplies, and to be honest, I take offense to that comment. Not that I should have to explain why we use the carriers that we do, but, the option for flat rate boxes isnt available in a commecial account.
If you have any furthur comments or compalints feel free to email me or call me, our contact info is listed on the website.

I have never cared to calculate whether Tom's shipping prices are either high or low. The personal advice that you get when ordering a product from Tom far outweighs any potential cost savings. It's all a tax deduction after I win the weighoff anyways.

Guess Tom didn't read the good part of my post :{

I am taking offense that you're referring any negative issues about your business to your own website and phone numbers. You use this website to promote your business so I don't understand why you don't want to discuss this issue here. For what it's worth, I've called your business number several times and no one has answered it.

Take a look back at my post and see if I stated that your business was profiting from shipping. I merely stated that some businesses do so......

Don't feel like you have to explain anything to me! I'm not trying to run your business, I was simply trying to help you win over another customer, please accept my apology.

1320, I apologize if I misunderstood your post. Sometimes it gets under my skin when I am asked to do the impossible, we try to price all of our items less then all the rest, obviously it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that this means little to no profit, when I am asked to give free shipping on top of that, or reminding me of a shipping method that cannot be used in an e-commerce enviroment, it strikes me as unbelievable. I feel that I am fairly accurate to think that when everyone goes to work, they are doing it not only because they enjoy it, but for a paycheck at the end of the week, I don't hear of many that donate their pay or offer "free work week".
I usually prefer to keep all of the ranting private, via email, I dont like to air dirty laundry in public, Ken doesnt need the nonsense on his website, and frankly, lots of growers dont want to get involved in this nonsense.
