I've never added Kelp meal to my patch before, but was going to use it this year. How much should I use on 1100 sq ft?

20 lbs +/- a few. Jerry Rose assures me he uses more though.

north american kelp suggest 25# per 1000Sq ft applied in spring and fall so jerry is right on with 50#

Stan, I pay $1 per pound in 50 lb bags. What would that be about $40 in US cash....is that a good price?

I get it from Flack's Bakerview Kelp Products Inc. (she also has dehydrated kelp for drench/foliar feeding and pre-mixed liquid) Great stuff!!!

Too much. Dried Kelp Meal is an odd-ball niche item that isn't made for a large scale consuming group. So the scale of economies has never caught up to the price per pound.

It is ironic that the producers aren't getting rich even though the consumer is getting hosed.

It is what it is.

I'm saying that the kelp we are buying is a by-product of other industry. Unless it is heavily processed ijn a costly procedure (it isn't), then I believe $1.00/lb is a little high.

This may sound quite unbelievable but i can get Seaweed Meal from several places over here and have already spread almost 25Lb during some winter Patch Prep. It is quite expencive but from all that i have read it is well worth the investment. the shipping is what gets most growers but I have seen it as high as 65 for 50# bag the more you buy the cheaper it is. If you are close to the source of course it is cheaper. I bought large quanity from north american kelp and it is 29 a bag with shipping included. thats to ohio from maine. I understand that there are different grades of kelp meal also don't know what the exact difference is but make sure you are comparing apples to apples so to speak
