There are actually 2 answers here.
10 to 1 is a good target for a nutrient count however 75%/15% is also correct from a Cation Exchange Capacity ratio.
Two different things.

Albrecht's ratios are pure rubbish as long the minimum needs of the plants are met, but once the correct levels are reached, Brian's 10:1 ratio will have been met. Imagine that? Maybe Albrecht wasn't so dumb after all. LOL

The main problem from what I understand, is that the plant gets confused between mg and ca and therefore if there is high mg in relation to ca, the plant with become ca deficient as it absorbs lots of mg in erro. Therefore it seems we compensate for this "problem" by maximizing the ca so that even if the plant is confused, getting the ca is like shooting fish in a barrel (or so I am told, LOL) Need to be careful how pH is raised and be sure it does not also raise mg to too high of a level.
