how much sulfer is too much sulfer.
when you add gypsum to the soil, you are adding calcium and sulfer (CaSO4). At what level does the sulfer become a hindrance?

I can attest that it is a "help" when your soil report comes back saying that you have only 9 ppm sulfur!!! However, I cannot figure where all of my sulfur disappeared to as I added 600# of gypsum last year....and the year before that .....and the year before that!!!

As of last fall my Sulfer was at about 20 ppm. but i do not know how much is too much.

I wanted to toss on a little bit of gypsum now.
I put on 1000 lbs of lime last fall and that brought the pH to 7.0 and also brought up the calcium.(will be sending in a soil test this week to tell me what the Ca is).
But I thought if the test results allowed me, I would toss on a couple hundred pounds of gypsum.
Patch size is 11,000 sq ft.
So a couple hundred pounds of gypsum wouldnt do very much.
but i still wanted to put it on.

Sulfur improves root development in the soil when present in adequate amounts. But excessive use of sulfur can result in phosphate tie-up, which is also needed for proper root development.An excess of sulfur is more of a problem in some locations than a deficit. Acid rain may include sulfur-containing products. The oxidation of large amounts of sulfur makes the soil very acidic, making plant growth difficult. Sounds like if you keep the PH Nuetral..it should not become a problem.

My soil tests are all consistently over 200 ppm for the last 4 years.

Soil doc has never said anything about it. Of course you have to make sure eveything else is in correct ratios.

My sulfur levels is at 200 PPM and I am adding more sulfur this spring to lower my PH. I have been assured that this won't be a problem
