My soil is low in potassium. does anyone know of a way to raise the level in a quick way other that using muriate of potash aka 0-0-60 NPK. Please keep in mind I have a 3000 square foot garden and a 1 square inch wallet. LOL I added a bunch of composted grass, wood chips and leaves last year but don't know how that has effected things. Ground has been to wet and cold to take samples... I was told last year that I needed to add 25 lbs of potash to every 1000 sq feet. That was before the amendments of last year. Any idea what my amendments from last year did. I do know the wood chips weren't quite composted and sucked the nitrogen out of my soil last year, but thats a different story.

Wood ash is 10% potash, but be careful...it's alkaline and will raise your pH.

Sounds like you are very low in Potassium if they are calling for 25 lbs/ 1000. You should probably consider adding some granualr potash in order to satisfy the deficiency. You can aslo use potassium Sulfate, 0-0-50. or Jersy green sand.

Ditto the SOP (0-0-50 sulfate of potash). It costs more than 0-0-60 MOP but is MUCH lower in chlorides.

50 lb bag of 0-0-50 cost's @ $30 at Agway. Not so bad!

If you have not planted yet, then use the KCl and leach to eliminate the Cl. If you have planted, I would use the SOP. Cl is the #1 easiest thing to leach out of soil...but it burns the easiest also if in contact with living tissue.
