Hi everyone, I need to add some gypsym and potash to my patch and wondered when to do this. I finially got the patch tilled today and wondered when to add these nutrients? I also need lime, which I should had put down in the fall but couldnt so I will be doing that this weekend. So can some give some advise. Thanks. Croley

The gypsum and lime should go down as quickly as possible. Check your local farmers supply store for "fast acting" gypsum and a product called Solu-Cal. The Solu-Cal is great for raising pH and is quicker than lime. I would think your source of potash should go down now also. Planting time is upon us!

How low is your pH that you need lime? If mid 6s I would not apply any lime and wait until fall. What did your soil test show?

Thanks Hoots for the reply, I will get the gypsum and potash down as soon as I can get in the new tilled soil, rained last night, I should wait or I will carry all the soil off on my shoes..lol..
Petman, my pH is 6.9, so I guess I can wait till fall, Im sure fall application would be better. Thanks so much for you both answering my question, it really helps. Croley

If your pH is 6.9, leave it alone. Don't add any lime at all. Not even this fall.

Yeah, 6.9 is probably THE number to shoot for as far as pumpkins go. Trying to change that would be sacrilegious.

If you need to raise your calcium, just add high calcium gypsum. It won't change your pH.

Croley, definitely no lime for you! pH looks awesome. What is your calcium number? If it's up close to 3200ppm you are golden!

Opps, I read the wrong test...my pH is 6.0 and Buffer pH 6.8. My Calsium ia 1925. So sorry I read the wrong test. I took samples from two different plots, I am going to use the one closer to my home, the other is way out in the field and I got to thinking about the deer, coons and such..I really appreciated everyones input and the time it takes to read these messages and I go write the wrong number..So, I will wait till fall, since I feel that 6.0 is better than 5.0..thanks again.
