Hello,
I have been growing giants for two years now and have a few questions I would love answered to get over the 1000 pound mark- Finished 2nd in WV 2 years ago and had what I estimated to be an 800 pounder until problems last year.
1st- I have never had much luck putting pallets under pumpkins and was wondering what else might work and what is best and cheap?

you should not try and put your pumpkin on a pallet until your ready to move it to be weighed. the easyiest thing to put under your pumpkin is a few inches of sand.

If we knew what the secret was to growing a 1000 pound pumpkin we'd be doing it instead of posting on this board! LOL. I'd be happy with a 800 pounder that is an acheivement in and of itself! I am considering buying some of the mill run fabric that gets posted on here it sounds like it would be easy to slip under the pumpkin.

I use Woven filter fabric that is used in the road building industry and should not be to hard to find, water drains through and its tough as nails. Sprinkle a little sand on it and the pumpkins have no problems adjusting with their size.

As far as getting over 1000 pounds, well its hard work, alot of luck with the weather and having soil that is prepared correctly and not being a more-on late in the season and add things that might disturb the growing process - let your soil do the work.

Too many of us have been "More-ons" at one point and time.

10-4 I managed to run a week worth of fertilizer through my ez-flo in my drip in one day! Needless to say this year is all about building my soil, and any fert that gets added will be done the old fashion way through the hose in my miracle gro sprayer!

Pallets are too bulky to deal with....Put it on the pallet before the weigh off not while its growing.....

I beleive one of the single biggests factors in getting your PB to 1000 lbs is control of the watering....AUTOMATION.....

By far the pumpkin is made up of water.....controlling how it attainZ it iZ a major key....IMHWO.......Dont work harder....work smarter....AUTOMATE...saves water and puts it down when where you design it....
