anyone do the double dug method?

Working on it. I dug the top layer off my patch tilled and added ammendments and worked my patch in thirds. I have piles of dirt and compost everywhere and my back and upper body hurt from shoveling last weekend. But when I am done my patch should be about a foot and half deep minimum with compost incorporated throughout.

i did the same as seedguy a couple years back i had manure tilled in the year before, so the top 6" was pretty nice, so i ran the tiller again, shoveled off the top loose soil, then added a bunch of leaves into the next layer, a lot of work but if you cant get a tractor to do it, you gotta

I till in my Winter Rye 2 times to really knock it down (2 weeks between tills). Then I pitchfork the planting areas..mixing in some kelp, Mychorizhae, worm castings approximately 18 inches down ...3 feet around. Mark

We did it at The WiZ and BiZ patch....used a bob cat and turned over the first two years to 18".....Cant complain....3 1000 pounders the next year.....Now we are adding more to the soil....in the Fall we intend to sub Soil the patch.....
