I won't go into details as to why, just what my options are. I am moving to a new patch next season. I need to haul in 60 - 100 yards of soil and compost to cover an area of fairly hard, dried out topsoil, then put in a cover crop.

Oops, cut myself off, sorry.

Should I just haul in the soil, put it on top and till it all in the spring or should I wet the area now, till what is there and then put on the soil? If I do the second, it will delay the cover crop for up to 3 weeks.

if it's possible to "subsoil" that hard dry area b4 adding the topsoil that would be a good option

or add that new soil then subsoil to get the 2 mixed together and breakup old hardpan

just a couple of ideas
