This will be my second year growing. I grew almost a 600# pumpkin last year. I think it was beginner luck. I kinda Forrest Gumped my way through it. I have read and heard enough to know I should have a soil test done. I don't know how to go about it, the procedure, how or where to send it. If you have the cost involved I would appreciate it. Thanks

Hey Stein, I'm a newby also, I hope you read some of the New Growers list It's full of us newbies asking about those dreaded soil samples. There are several that have been referenced especially in that board list. A&L eastern labs, A&L western labs(Modesto CA) seems to be a a couple of favorites. Many universities with large Agriculture departments have soil testing sevices. Check with your local Ag Sevices, or keep reading you'll narrow it down. Also Hollands Nursery and Extreme Pumpkins have links to Labs.
P.S. I envy your first year efforts! BSD, David

Punkin, link up to this: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/msgboard/ViewThread.asp?b=14&p=377707

Contact these organizations: http://www.sogpg.com/ http://www.ovgpg.com/ These people should be able to give you good advice on soil labs.

Also: if you want some links to purchase inexpensive soil sampling tubes, let me know at minok2014@yahoo.com

Cheap is good, prizewinning pumpkins are better.
