One of the speakers in vegas recommened it to increase cec of soil.I have a sandy loam.

hey joe- there's a guy outside of boulder that sells it. I tried a few bags a few years back (think I tilled in 200 pounds or so into my old patch). didn't really notice any changes to soil structure or CEC, but my CEC was high to start with since I had clay there.

The purpose of zeolite is to absorb moisture and nutrients for slow release during the growing season. If you don't have well drained soil you could end up with a soggy patch because zeolite acts like small sponges.

My advice would be to use it sparingly and test to check for changes. I've used it, but didn't see noticeable results in my clay-prone patch.

Joe, don't waste your money, a bunch of us tried it a few years back, nothing special, as a matter of fact, at least one grower was very disappointed.

I didn't see this post until now Joe. I have added a couple hundred pounds over a 3 year period along with a 150 lbs to each of my 700 sq ft growing areas. I am done adding it but I have noticed a huge difference to the texture and structure of my soil. In our high heat I like its principals of retaing moisture. I also crown my patch well and it drains nicely to begin with due to my yard being built up with flagstone and clay in the 1920s and highest point of neighboehood is where my plants are. If drainage is a concern then I wouldn't use it. Benefits include no hot spots in soil. Water wil transverse laterally in a wicking affect. This is why used on golf course putting greens. Cec raising is another along with the capacity to reduce leaching of nutrients and retaing them in readily available state longer. Also acts as pourous structure to call home greatly increasing the surface are for micros to latch on to. Probably not to be used in all gardens or climates.But I like the texture and structure since adding it. Once it is in it is there to stay. This scares most people off. I grow in the same spot every. I feel the porous structure helps the beneficial population especially when I run with OM at over 10%. Just my opinions.
