As one of my patches is now plantless I was wanted to plant a cover crop at this time. Any suggestions for on here in Connecticut in August?

It really depends on what your goal is..If you have a cool enough winter Hairy Vetch, Winter Peas, and Fava Beans are excellent cover crops... In Wisconsin Winter Rye is about your only choice nothing else survives -20

Thanks Linus. In Central California we get a little bit of frost in winter but an actual hard freeze is not too common. Sometimes we go a whole winter without a freeze. Other times we get two or three nights of freeze out of the whole winter. Right now the daily highs are above 100F. We don't get much rain. Most of it is in winter and our annual precip is only about 8 to 12 inches.

I like forage radish, preferably Groundhog or Nitro varieties, planted in mid July to mid August for best results. Very deep tap root, mines minerals from the soil, adds organic material.
