my soil test revealed my manganese was only 3 ppm. I think that is due to my Ph being 7.4 which happened when I added 4 pickup truck loads of horse manure compost. I've got the manganese sulfate to add but I have no idea how much I should add to bring it up to desirable rates. my patch is about 450 sq ft and I have a 3 lb bag of manganese sulfate. anybody know how much of the 3 lb bag I should add to the patch.

I tilled in 20lbs. for 1300 sq. ft. last year. MN was 6 ppm
I tilled to a depth of 10". PH was 7.5, OM was 4.2
MN tested at 8ppm this year.
I would use 3 lbs. for 450sq ft and not think twice about it.

you can add 100 lbs at 7.4 ph and get nothing in return. It will all nearly convert to unusuable forms of manganese before your plants can even think about using any of it. add 1 lb now and drench more of it in during the season so the plant can actually use some of it before it locks up. you could also try using an acidifying nitrogen source which will create a lower ph zone that will help with manganese availability.

how do you test for manganese? A&l western labs told me that a regular soil test will not give you an accurate analysis when it comes to manganese.

thanks everyone....I added 6.1 lbs of organic soil acidifier and 1.5 lbs of the manganese sulfate. hopefully this will get me more in line where I should be

Apply it foliar and then you wont have to worry about soil pH.
