I planted my mustard about 3 weeks ago. It is 3 to 4 inches high right now. I know you should cut it before it goes to seed but it may be to close to freezing by that time. I read you can let it winter kill and turn it in in the spring. I was planning on a cover crop of vetch and buckwheat in the spring. So I don't think tilling in spring is a good idea. The question is how tall should I let it get before cutting and tilling, and would the bio fumigation still work if it got to cold?

When it goes to heavy flower but right before it goes to seed is when the leaves and stalks will have the most glucosinolates.
Wait as long as you can. Most important part is to water deep and heavy as soon as you till the mustard in. I found 500 gallons per 1000 sq ft to be about right for my soil.

I just worked mine under on Monday was 3 to 4 feet tall brush hogged it first then tilled in with a tractor... Took a few passes to work in good. I could smell it then water the heck out of it. It grows really fast...

First. Thank you for your responses.
So I emailed mighty mustard to get the answer I was looking for about cold. I have to say how impressed I am with their quick response. I pressed the send button went to the kitchen for a drink and my phone rings. I answer it and it's mighty mustard calling to answer my question. Not even 5 min.
I already knew to let it flower and cut before it goes to seed. They told me you can cut it and till it in and over the winter it will still do its work it will just be slower. Freezing wont hurt.
