Having lost some pumpkin seeds to US customs I thought I would make sure I knew exactly what the rules were regarding import of pumpkin seeds into the UK. Having read DEFRA's (Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) document on importing plant material http://www.defra.gov.uk/planth/publicat/importer/impguide.pdf it seems that there is currently NO restriction on movement of pumpkin seeds within the EU and seeds coming in from non-EU countries. To confirm my understanding I contacted DEFRA by phone. They were absolutley adamant that posted pumpkin seeds from anywhere in the world are not a problem and that they should be marked as such so that there is no confusion as to what sort of seeds they are. The main message is mark them as pumpkin seeds rather than hide it.
Has anyone had any different exprience from this?
Is this the same in other EU countries? I asked DEFRA and they said it should be, but legislation is not always implimented identically.

Never had any problems in Europe, either sending or receiving. Never any problems to Canada or from North America to the Netherlands.
To the US I have my sneaky means.
