Saw your diary. Marrows grow about 5 weeks, give or take a few days. Usually we only keep one on the plant. But you can let the main continue to grow. After 5 weeks you can start a second if you wish. These things hardly ever abort and almost never split.
I let the plant grow about 15 feet wide at the base and set a marrow at about 10 feet out. As soon as the fruit is pollinated, terminate all growth (secondaries and main). Because they are so short growing, you don't need any new growth for later in the season.
