Sorry for first answer, not very polite. It depends on your equipment and your aims ( perhaps a very early weighoff). I have unheated hoophouses in the patch and dont want to transplant befor end of april/ begin may. So I start two weeks before transplanting. I´m always afraid of cold weather periods in May. If you have a (heated) glasshouse you can start earlier.

April 14 here for the pumpkins that go into the greenhouse and a week later for the ones that go outside.
