Ontario, Canada.

The 1131 Timm is now the ruler of this domain. Brant Timm has been a great grower in Ontario for the past two years. His first try at a squash results in a world record. Remarkable when you stop and think about it. The 1131 is an 848* X selfed. This seed should also be widely planted next spring. Little is know of Brant and his well kept secret breed of squash. The AGGC and GVGO feature very good spots about Brant and his record. Do you have plans for this seed next year? The GVGO does.

Just a reminder that the heaviest six true green squash this year all came from Canada, four of which from Ontario and four of which from the 848 MacKenzie. The fifth was from the 1003 MacKenzie.
1131 Timms (848 x self) - Ontario
1121 Aten (843 Hebb* x 548 Duchezeau*) - PEI
1080.5 Leonard (848 x self) - Ontario
1073 Landry (848 x open) - Ontario (dmg)
1055.5 Pitura (848 x self) - Ontario
1054 Kline (1003 x 848) - Quebec (dmg)

The 1131, 848 and 1003 are all available in the GVGO raffle. That is also true for last year's record the 1063.5 MacKenzie.

The US true green squash record (1053.5 Werner) was also grown from the 848.

I hope to grow both the 1063.5 and the 1055.5 this year.

Brant's 1131# WR squash doesn't seem to get the recognization on this site like the 1063 Mackenzie WR got last year. No picture on the BP home page or any real acknowledgement. Why, I guess it's been over shadowed by the Ron & Dick's Wallace's awesome season. Maybe future WR squash should be promoted better by the GPC. I think Joe's LG got more press & they aren't even part of the GPC prize structure. Just a thought for the new members of the GPC executive.

I agree Phil and its a shame. I also noticed that since the passing (not without some resistance) of the Green Jacket/Trophy to the International Seminar People not a word has been said. Here's a new World Record Squash and numerous other great squash achievements and nothing has been said....no congratz, no announcements, no nothing. The Seminar flyer came out through the mail announcing the orange jacket but absolutely nothing about the Green Jacket. They even purchased an orange trophy bigger than that huge Green Trophy. Doesn't sound like they support squash at all...back to second rate citizens....sadly, not unexpected.

If Joe's Long Gourd got more press it's only because those of us who were at Frierich's took pictures & posted them here.

Truthfully, with Ronny's 1502 sitting right next to the 126.5 I about had to beg Joe to pose with his LG or we might not have that picture either!

Where was the 1131 weighed? Who is their site coordinator? Does the sponsoring club bother to have a dedicated cameraperson? Did they send a picture to Ken? Ken gets around but he isn't responsible for chasing every record down. LOL

Mark my words that if someone had sent Ken a picture with a caption & a note it would have been here at BP on the homepage.

I don’t want to take anything away from Joe’s WR, but I just thought that the GPC would promote the squash WR more. Joe has been a great ambassador to this sport & he deserves the recognition for his great achievement. I even email him & congratulated him as soon as I heard of his new WR. Sorry Joe, if I’ve caused any hard feelings, it certainly wasn’t my intentions.

The 1131 Timm WR squash was weighed in at Hugi’s Blueberry Farm in Pembroke on Sept 30th. This is a new weigh off site that took over when the Ottawa site was cancelled. It’s also a GPC sponsored event, but I guess Hugi's Blueberry Farm would be the sponsoring organization. As a new site, they wouldn't know what to do about a new WR, so that could be part of the problem.

The GVGO doesn’t sponsor this weigh off, nor do we sponsor any weigh offs in Ontario. They are all self supported & that’s the way they want it. They don’t want our club coming in & telling them how to run it & we don’t need the extra work. The Club was formed to unite all the Ontario growers under one group & awards are given to the top growers within the Province, no matter what weigh off they took their fruit to. As long as it was Ontario Grown & officially weighed, it is considered in the awards program. We also award our out-of-province winners for their achievements as well. A picture of the WR squash is displayed on the home page of our website (www.gvgo.ca) because Brant is a GVGO member. He will also be awarded the GVGO Champion’s Trophy at our grower’s seminar in April. I didn’t send a picture to Ken, but then again I didn’t send one for Bob Mackenzie’s 1063.5 or Al Eaton’s 1446 either. I guess I can take some of the heat for that. I will in the future inform the GPC committee ASAP after a weigh off & send a picture to Ken.

The International Convention doesn't mention anything about the green jacket in the latest flyer. I don’t know why, but I will find out. I think it’s time the GPC took over organizing the International Convention instead of relying on the Port Elgin Weigh off committee to run things. This will bring the sport/hobby together under one governing body & hopefully take it to the next level. The PE group donated their services in the past because they have the resources to process most of the paper work & financial services needed to put it together. The work they’ve done over the past 9 or 10 years to promote the sport is incredible & the GPC should honor them with a special award.

I’m glad to see that the GPC has added a few more people to the executive. This will hopefully lighten the load for the few that were running things in the past. Anyway, I'm sorry if I caused a problem, I just wanted to see Brant get the recognition he deserves.

Oh, I almost forgot. The GVGO has photos of Brant's WR squash on it's website & we will be featuring him in an upcoming article in the Feb edition of the Growers Vine. Congratulations again Brant on an awesome season.

Well I have been informed by Lisa that they aren't going to purchase a Green Jacket for this year's Seminar. They said that they were never paid for the last two Green Jackets????? I thought that the Orange & Green jackets were bought by the committee with funds raised at the seminar? What's up with this. This is one of many reasons why the International Seminar should be taken over by the GPC. Anyone from the GPC want to comment on this?

Brent Timms is the Squash King of 2006......just look at his feat 1131 lbs WOW..........and remember just a few years back knowone thought 1000 lbs was possible....look at how many 1000 lbers in 2006......Brent was only 69 lbs shy of 1200 lbs............hey look out the squash are moving with quite the increases in weight from great GROWERS like Brent Timms....my Hat was off to you in Pembrooke Brent and its off to you as 2006 WORLD CHAMPION

before making any comments on this Green Jacket issue Phil you need to have all the facts........if you wish to know more you can e-mail me or phone me and I can clear this matter up...this is something that shouldn't have never been dealt with as a post.....people reputation's can be ruin by commenting on issues without all the information.....this is not an issue between the Seminar and GPC.......why pit one against the other.......two different organizations doing a great job on separate fronts.....sometimes issues can be resolved by just communicating and not finger pointing.....I'll take full responsiblilty that Brent Timms feat did not get the ATTENTION it derserved...his 1131 is every bit as awesome as the World Record Pumpkin grown by the incredible grower Ron Wallace....both feats are great examples of how hard growers go at it to raise the BAR for us all to follow......also Joe Jutras grew a Long Gourd that was just simply AMAZING........the 125" barrier was smashed, once again showing how great growers keep raising the BAR to New heights for us all to chase......

Wayne, no one is trying to ruin your reputation. I was just trying to find out what was going on. Why wasn't this cleared up long ago? Why was the green jacket left off the convention agenda. Why are you & Glenn the only ones that know anything about it? Too many questions & no one seems to have an answer for them. I'm sorry for any problems I caused. All I wanted to do is give Brant the recognition he deserved.

he will get it..........because Glenn, Rocky and myself were the ones that promoted it in the beginning stages.....with support from hundreds of growers...just about everyone knew that...the fact the Pumpkin trophy was made bigger is great, both helped each other...two amazing trophies..........nothing is a secret.....if the Seminar doesn't wish to help promote thats their choice...I can live with that.....if GPC wants to take over I can live with that to......its not about who started it, but it's about a long over do Championship for Squash....and it belongs to all squash growers....
