No sure how many people noticed that there is a line of true green squash capable of going over 1000# that has absolutely no 895 Hester in it.
1013 Wells 06 was grown from 549.5 Wells 05. To my knowledge it is the first and only true greenie over 1000 that does not have 895 in it.

Might be a good thing to keep in mind for any true green squash breeders out there...

The 549.5 was crossed with an 848* so the Hester line is in the 1013. This could be an interesting seed. Thanks for the tip Edwards.

Shouldn't the "Hester line" really be considered the "Lyons Line"..?.I meanits 900Lyons x sib...all 900Lyons. Having not changed the line genetically then there should be no change nomenclaturally ? And there is 900Lyons in the 549.5, apparently just the perfect amount too....the 1013 was an awesome fruit and congratz to Bob Wells !!

if you're looking for an interesting squash seed (might be a good cross for one of Bob's):

291* Wolf 06 (703* Smith x 865 Mettler)

703* was a selfed 547, which was a selfed 935 Lloyd.

the 291* was a beautiful dark green, and the pollinating plant threw a white pumpkin. I have no idea if the offspring will continue green, but if it does, maybe it's the 723/845 of squash.

I figured someone would be trying the 229 Hathorn again. It is a 703 Smith X 821 Garrell(845 Bobier Sibbed) Here is what it grew: http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=28966

Andy I can not remember what you grew on the 229.

the 229* only got the corn field treatment when i grew it in 05. it grew a 333*, the biggest squash out there. it was pollinated with my 535*.

I've got a rather obscure fruit that also originates from the Lyons patches in 1999.

The McCallum 943.5*, of 2000 was a monster in its day and charted at nearly 1000 pounds. It stayed green from its mother, the 429* Lyons of 99. It was selfed so it should be strongly green. There was only one fruit ever grown by a 1st year grower in 2002 by the name of Rasmusen who took it to 584*
