I was just curious how everybodies Squash were doing this year. Here in WI the weather has been really hot and humid with record amounts of rainfall. This morning my first Squash hit 20 days old. 943.5 Jacobus x sibling
Cir. = 77"
Side to side = 51"
Blossom to stem = 50"
I hope all is well in your patch and you are all on your way to a personal best! Good luck and good gardening!

Sounds like you have a good one going. I'm only at day 17 so too early to tell, but a better start than I have ever had on a squash (or pumpkin that ever made it to a scale, for that matter).

Day 27 for the 1217 Jarvis and don't think i'll be hitting the "big" 30 day benchmark. If that's what she's gotta do to stay sound that's fine by me:)

My 895 Hester is approximately 252 pounds, pollinated mid June.

My 767 Hester is orange, it's being pulled tomorrow.

My 469 Van Hook appears to be going orange but I took the 895 Hester to it, gonna keep that one!

1236* Vincent Mcgill has many side vine pollinations. No main vine females made it to maturity for pollination. Other than that it has been a decent plant for me.

My 2nd Squash turned 20 days old today. 1125 Razo x 943.5 Jacobus
Cir. = 78"
blossom to stem = 50"
side to side = 45"
This one looks like it is going to make a nice boat!

Cir. = 84"
blossom to stem = 56"
side to side = 52"
Last night we had over 3" of rain! Looks like I won't need to water for another week. Good luck everybody!

I am sorry to here about the loss Brad. Nothing in gardening is worse than losing a fruit. I am currently battling a soft spot just below the blossom on my biggest Squash. About a week ago this spot began to ooze from a small superficial crack due to growth. Then the skin around it began to get soft. I cleaned the soft skin out down to hard healthy Squash flesh and applied captan powder. The next day the spot was oozing and the skin was soft around the edges of the wound. I thought the captan was keeping air from drying out the flesh so I put a fan on it 24/7 and have been cleaning it with 1/10 bleach and water solution twice a day to kill any unwanted Bacteria. The only problem is that after I clean the wound out down to bare Squash flesh and disinfect it, 4 hrs. later the wound is filled back in with ooze again. This ooze stops the air from getting to the bare skin and drying it out. Everyday when I clean out the wound it gets a little deeper. Is there any way to make the wound stop bleeding so that the skin can heal and dry out. The wound is 2" x 2" X 0.5" deep. If anybody has any ideas I would be very appreciative. My e-mail is youngtracy25@yahoo.com

Try spraying area with straight alcohol instead of the bleach/water. Dust with Captan, use the fan, if the edges get moist wait a day those edges should harden off and dry up. "Don't pick your scabs"

I will start this A.S.A.P. She is 30 days old today and is estimating in the mid 400's. I don't want to loose her! Thanks for the help!

Crappy squash year for me... 549* wells...no pollinations...likley will pull the plant. 785* V/M excellent fruit, with measurements well over benchmarks, but white colour, with a couple green stripes! 1236* finally got a late pollination. Good early numbers but a crappy blossom end, so likley wont make it......not much competition from the Vincent patch this season!

566* Winey is putting up well with my lousy soil and rookie mistakes. Fruit has a beautiful green color to it.

I lost my biggest Squash today (943.5 Jacobus x Sibling) at day 32. Amazing vigor and growth rates! OTT of 279" Pin hole in the blossom end. The only thing that makes me feel better is that my 2nd 943.5 Jacobus plant has a fruit that is 23 days old and has grow over 90 pds. in the last 3 days! My 1125 Razo turned 30 days today with an OTT of 241". Not the best 30 day measurement but this one is as solid as a tank. My 800 Neily set is 16 days old and appears to be living up to its expectation. My brother's 1236 Vindent/Mcgill plant was difficult to set a fruit on with alot of mutated female blossoms but he finally got one on 7/15. Long and deep green. His 800 Neily plant lost the fruit on the main vine, but he has a pear shaped fruit (800 Neily x 943.5 Jacobus) on a side vine that is growing rapidly. I wish everybody the best and hope all is well in your patch! Good luck!

Not a pumpkin but I have finally got some Joynson marrows to set and am very happy. Seem to be growing an inch(longer) a day. One is 11" and the other is 10".
How exactly do I estimate the weight of a marrow?

800 Neily tapes over 600lbs at day 34...1217.5 Jarvis is doing o.k as well, they might not make it to the scale but they're certainly something to watch;)

Keep up the good work guys! Amazing measurements! The stump on the 1125 Razo split and started to foam yesterday about 24 hrs. after I culled the plant down to one fruit. This is a new one for me this year. Good luck everybody!

A 29.9" CC on day 10 for the 1236*. Going to cull a day 20 off the plant over the next two days and hope there is enough time before the weighoff to produce a new little squash.

My 690* Jager 09 (1055 Pitura x 1310 Pitura) grows very steadily today on the day 28:

CC= 91 inch
EE= 65,5 inch
SS= 67 inch
EST= 244 lbs

during the last 5 days on an average 18 lbs per day

I bought generic AG seeds this spring. It now looks like they sent me squash seeds instead. I have one dark green squash growing at 12 ft out on main vine. At 14 days post pollination it has circ. of 40 inches. I am completley new at this, is this a good start?

The 800 Neily turned 20 days old today.
Cir. = 86"
Stem to blossom = 57"
Side to side = 59"
This is a new Squash personal best for myself on a 20 day measurement. She is well over 20' out on the main with 800 sq. ft. of plant behind her. Please hold together!

184 lbs, very impressive! Hope it holds together... I'm looking forward to growing the 800 next year.

Caleb, maybe try a tissue test if the plant is still growing and has young leaves. Doesn't sound like you lost it because it was growing too fast, sounds more like a BES problem caused by low calcium(?). I had the same things 2 years ago with a plant. Ended same way...a pinhole.

The soil calcium levels are through the roof, along with everything else. LOL!! The pin hole was a result of a soft spot that got away from me. I never had one get a soft spot that early and it took me by suprise. I am growing that one out to get some viable seeds. I covered the pin hole with vaseline. The fruit is still gaining steadily, but it is only a matter of time. Thank you and good luck!

I hope it works out and the pumpkin makes it.

...but just because you have alot of Ca in soil, doesn't mean that the plant is getting it. Could be locked up by other nutrients (+ve -ve ions). A tissue test will tell you what the plant is actually getting.

Caleb, I have one of the 943.5*s growing that you gave me. There is no yellow on that plant. It is nice and green and not fussy at all. I had two pollination's on the first side vines that I cut off this week that were volleyball size. I wasn't able to get something on the main until the 19th. But it is growing nice and fast and has allready passed those. I am sure that I will grow this plant again next year. The plant puts on good green females that shoot straight up in the air. They have really long nice stems. I have the patch tour over tomorrow, when its over I'll post some pictures in my diary. Thanks a lot. Ryan E

The 943.5 was grown off the 716.5 That Squash was set on July 30TH and weighed the first weekend in October so there is still time for a 1,000 pounder. Maybe with a nice September who knows. After day 20 your in for a show! Good luck Ryan!

The 1125 Razo is still gaining 25 pds. a day consistantly with no stump and my 800 Neily lost her stump and 4' of main vine due to foaming issues two days ago. 3 squash plants left and only one with a stump! Hopefully they grow by osmosis! LOL

Lost first fruit on 800* Neily -rotten on bottom. I have now few pollinated on 800*, still less than 10 days old but something anyway if I loose 661*...

G....Is that good colour for squash;-)
